About Data: The 25 ha Traunstein forest plot is located in the south-eastern part of Germany in close vicinity to the Northern Alps, about 15 km north of the city of Traunstein. It is the first managed forest area included in the ForestGEO network. Since decades, management in Traunstein actively transforms even aged monospecific stands into uneven aged mixed species stands. While homogenous forests where transformation is just beginning dominate the east part, the western part is stocked with multi-layered mixed stands where successful transformation towards complex stand structure has been started decades ago.
ForestGeo would like to make the forest dynamics plots data available to researchers, scientists, and students. Maintaining plots requires enormous field effort and ongoing financial commitments, and therefore ask that the principal investigators of the plots, as well as their funding agencies, be acknowledged. We ask that you fill out an online form describing briefly why and how you will be using the data, after accepting the terms and conditions for data use.
