About Data: The Sinharaja FDP was established and has been censused four times between 1993 and 2012 by researchers at the Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya, with the approval and co-operation of the Forest Department of Sri Lanka. The plot is now jointly managed by researchers at the University of Peradeniya and Uva Wellassa University. The Sinharaja FDP project requires an enormous field effort for its maintenance, harnessing the skills of the universities and local village communities, and also finding funding sources for repeated censuses and related research and education programmes. The multi-year data set of the Sinharaja plot is used regularly for undergraduate and post-graduate research, as well as in other bilateral and multi-lateral collaborative projects. The PIs of the Sinharaja plot welcome collaboration and shared use of the data. Data can be requested through the Data Request Form. If a proposed data use is deemed to overlap too closely with current or planned use, the PIs and their collaborators will have priority and a request may be declined. As a necessary step towards in-country capacity building and technical support, the plot PIs encourage, and give preference to, data requesters who are willing to contribute towards: i) capacity building in Sri Lanka, (in particular, for the post-graduate research programmes of the PIs) , and ii) logistic support through the donation of consumables/equipment/software etc. for research.
