About Data: The Wind River Forest Dynamics Plot is located approximately 20 km north of the Columbia River in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Forest composition is principally Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla), western redcedar (Thuja plicata), silver fir (Abies amabilis), grand fir (Abies grandis), noble fir (Abies procera), and vine maple (Acer circinatum). The current animal species include a large herd of elk (Cervus canadensis). The plot lies within the T.T. Munger Research Natural Area. Forest measurements within portions of what is now the WFDP have been taken since 1994. The Pacific Northwest region NEON site is co-located with the WFDP, and the flux tower lies within the plot.
