Terms and Conditions for the Use of Palanan tree Data

Data Request: Our goal is to make the Palanan Forest Dynamics Plot (Palanan FDP) data available to all researchers and students. The maintenance of the Palanan FDP requires enormous field effort from the Principal Investigator (PI) and the team of researchers as well as continuing financial commitment by several parties, thus we require that the PI and/or a plot representative (as appropriate) be considered collaborators actively involved on any project making use of the data and therefore included as co-authors on any articles or presentations.

Non-transferability: To ensure that we can vouch for the accuracy of the data, as well as record every use of the Palanan FDP data, prospective investigators should not share the Palanan data with other parties not included on the Request for Data Access Proposal. Refer such a request to the PI for evaluation and appropriate response.

Citation: Any publication that uses Palanan FDP data should include the following reference:

Co, L., LaFrankie, J., Lagunzad, D., Pasion, K., Consunji, H., Bartolome, N., Yap, S., Molina, J., Tongco, M., Ferreras, U., Davies, S. and Ashton, P. 2006. Forest Trees of Palanan, Philippines: A Study in Population Ecology. University of the Philippines Center for Integrative and Development Studies, Quezon City, Philippines.

Copies of articles: Draft manuscripts for submission should be sent to the PI (Dr. Perry S. Ong, ongperry@yahoo.com) and/or plot representative (as appropriate) prior to submission for comments and suggestions. Once published, any article that used the Palanan FDP data should be sent to the PI for our library. Upon publication, a PDF copy of (or a link to) the article should also be sent to forestgeo@si.edu.

Acknowledgements: Please acknowledge the support that allowed the creation of the plot in any publications that arise from the Palanan PDF data.

"The Palanan Dynamics Plot has been supported by Conservation International-Philippines, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Isabela State University (ISU), the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute's Forest Global Earth Observatory (ForestGEO), and Institute of Biology, University of the Philippines Diliman (UP Biology) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd). Permission to work in the Palanan FDP was granted by the Protected Areas Management Board of the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park, the DENR and local government unit of Palanan, Isabela.”

Should a government-issued Permit No. signifying permission to work in the plot or collect samples be required by a journal, this will be provided upon request.
